It seems that there were so few names for males in common usage that the same names appear over and over!
Even when the names are unusual, they can get repeated in families long after the cousinship has become remote. I have a Woolley line where the name Ambrose keeps popping up - but it also seems to be prevalent in Woolley branches that no longer know if they are related to each other. I worked on another family that had several individuals named Gustavus Adolphus Stickney - you'd think that was a unique name, but it was certainly not unique in that family!
Don't give up - it will click into place someday, thanks to the work you are doing! It is especially important to be able to show that two people with the same name are different people, so they don't get conflated. The work you are doing is important!
