laughto gather more confirmation Kimberly could perhaps enter www.familysearch.org and search out the children in the 1860 and following census years; and perhaps locate their death records or death records for some of them in which the parents are cited ... 

Yes, unfortunately her question was about Civil War involvement, she might have much more informtion about her family otherwise. I didn't see anything related when I found the census, but a good place to look for that would be widow's pension records. (Also at FamilySearch.)
