Do you know anything of the servants of Elizabeth Macarthur?

I have received a request for help with the domestic servants of Elizabeth Macarthur. I've suggested contact be made with the Elizabeth Farm (the Macarthur home at Parramatta NSW) museum at www.sydneylivingmuseums.com.au. Can anybody think of other, possibly better, contacts?

I guess whatever archives they have at Elizabeth Farm would be a good first step, Ken. They may have other ideas where to go after that.... maybe the State Library would be a resource, but that could turn into a major research project if the information is spread around various publications... State Library of NSW that is, also the Mitchell Library next to it.  I also have a vague recollection some staff were listed in the 1828 census, but that’s Camden Park rather than Elizabeth Farn, and presumably just a small snapshot of all the staff over the years,

I keep getting more ideas :) Maybe the Australian Society of Genealogists may have something in their library... but probably a long shot.
Thanks for the information. My grandmother's great grandmother was, according to family history, a nursery maid for Elizabeth Macarthur. I would like to confirm as some of my  oral family history is not accurate.

Regards

Ellen Ryan

Funnily enough, I've been working through my step fathers ancestors this week. I was told that their family was sponsered to come to Australia, by John MacArthur, and that they had to farm the land at Camden, for 5 or 7 years. It was Orlando Haddon-377, in 1853. Do they fit in with what you are looking at?

My g.g.grandparents, Stephen Kelloway and Selina Trowbridge from Wiltshire were also among the group sponsored to work for John Macarthur. They were married the day before the ship set sail for Australia. Stephen was the dairyman and Selina the cook.

A many years ago I went to an Open Day at Douglas Park. They had a magazine of the history of the Macarthur estate for sale which also listed all the early workers and household staff; that's where I found the listing for Stephen and Selina .
Interesting. Thank you.
