Hi,

I was doing a bit of research and stumbled upon a research paper RE cherokee chief John Ross. My grandpa (maternal side) who is still alive has the last name Ross. He says he comes from scottish and cherokee decent. He says his grandmother was a cherokee indian. I would love to know!

Many thanks,

Grace

John Ross and his descendants are well documented.  His profile here on Wikitree is Ross-6907 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ross-6907  All of his children and some of his grandchildren also have profiles,  All of his grandchildren lived in Indian Territory, so tracing your family to Oklahoma and Indian Territory would be a good place to start.

Hi Grace, the best way to proceed is to add family members (with sources) and work on up your tree, at some point you might even find family already here on Wikitree. So you will be able to connect to them.

Grace is still a Guest, so she cannot do this yet.  Perhaps you would like to upgrade your membership, Grace.

Hi Grace, and welcome to WikiTree. If you would upgrade to a full membership (which is free) it would be a lot easier for us to search John Ross for you.  You might even be able to add a few clues for us.

But you are asking questions in the right forum.

Once again, welcome to WIkiTree. Wouldn't it be exciting to know that you were related to John?
