Wow - she received an Emmy, Tony, and a BAFTA - received a CBE and made a Dame as well.

I will always remember her as Emma Peel on the Avengers alongside John Steed (Patrick MacNee).

Hi Carol, yes, that is extremely sad news. I have been a fan since On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, my favourite James Bond movie and the one that I found to be most like the original Ian Fleming book.

Hi All,

Thank you for your wonderful responses. I added her Wikipedia profile because of her substantive work. She was a Bond girl, she was Emma Peel of the Avengers (and I wanted to be her), she was a hostess on PBS Mystery Theater AND she played Olenna Tyrell on Game of Thrones! All of her awards were well-deserved and I was heartbroken when I saw the news of her death on my Amazon Notepad this morning.

Thank you all for helping me to celebrate her life and grieve her loss.

Both my husband and I loved watching The Avengers while growing up and I loved her in 'Game of Thrones'...smart, loyal to her family, wielding power with little effort yet obtaining large results. Through the decades as she aged I thought her more and more interesting. You could still see the beautiful woman underneath the 'layers' of experience. Not knowing the particulars of her life I still admire her. If this were the Victorian times I suspect she would be famous as a 'professional beauty' which probably explains my admiration. Like most of us I can't help but be drawn to the aesthetic...as humans we're built that way.
