Scots migration categories that don't exist? Who/where do we ask to have added?

All very well to deprecate "Emigrants from Scotland to Australia", but seems region to region has even more potential for imprecision, because it miight be quite hard to discern where some people were prior to emigrating.

I have several profiles coming up in my "suggestions", but I think the correct category in this new structure doesn't exist yet?

I tried to correct one, and got the response:

Category "Migrants_from_Kircudbrightshire_to_Victoria" does not exist.

In this particular case, the family were living at Kircudbright prior to emigrating. Some went to Victoria and some to South Australia.

Is there a page or contact point where we can request category additions?

Category "Migrants_from_Kircudbrightshire_to_Victoria" does not exist, but you can click SAVE ANYWAY. It will be a red-linked category at the bottom of the profile. All it needs are parent categories.  BUT.....

Alan, let me show you a little tool:

http://mcg.harrislineage.com/index2.html

You plug in the information and click SUBMIT, and the correct category to use is displayed. THEN, here is the real magic: click the gray box that says CategoryInfoBox Migration. You can copy/paste the Category Info Box (called a CIB) to the new category page and the category will be set up. (Instructions are even included)

What page do I add that template to? This is not clear.

John McEwen's profile?
To the profile you add the category, and you will get the warning that the category does not exist. Click SAVE ANYWAY.  The category will be a red-link at the bottom of the profile page. CLICK THE RED LINK. THen add the CIB to THAT page (the category page). Click SAVE in that category page once you have added the CIB.

Give it a try, Alan. It's not difficult and you will be able to build a new WikiTree skill!
OK, I've tried, not sure if I did it right, as the category page is still in red: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Emigrants_from_Kircudbrightshire_to_Australia

and shows "Australia" instead of Victoria. On the other hand Mcewen-1417 accepted [[Category: Migrants from Kircudbrightshire to Victoria]] without throwing an error...

Check the spelling of Kirkcudbrightshire

You requested them and I added, but please feel free to add them yourself. smiley

Yes, caught that a bit late.

That category will take that branch of the family out of "Suggestions"... Thank you.
You're welcome. Feel free to PM me if you attempt to create a category and run up against an issue. Have a good day!
Nat et al.,

I have been meaning to update this to the newest version. Alan identified an error in the app and this has now been corrected as well (the link wording in the CIB popup is correct for the landing category, but the URL it took you to was incorrect).

Everything should redirect over to the newest version of the app now (in case you bookmarked the link).

Alan you can add any requests to our page where you add the ship requests. I already have some there to do, it's for any Australian categories you want added.
