For someone who has a Newspapers.com subscription, I'd like to request that you clip and share a short article from this page:  https://www.newspapers.com/image/118864190/?terms=Albemarle.  It's a death announcement regarding Thomas Crosthwaite.  Thanks very much.

It says:

OBITUARY -- Died, on the morning of

the 26th November, Mr. THOMAS CROS-

THWAIT aged 38 years, brother of Shelton

Crosthwait, Esq. both formerly of Albemarle

county in the state of Virginia.  He died

near the town of Jefferson, on the plantation

of his brother in the county of Rutherford.

He left a widow and three children, a son

and two daughters.  To his widow he be-

queathed his property; his only son to the

guardianship of his brother.

Bingo - that newspaper obituary gives you the proof that Shelton Crosthwait was indeed the brother of Thomas Crosthwait.

Yes, thanks Marion.  It was just clipped by kpforbes1 a couple of minutes ago.  That handle seems suspiciously close to some person named Kathy (Parkes) Forbes.  ;-)
