There were several "James Madison Whittier" in this family. Thank you as I realized I had put the wrong dates on the son of Porter K Whittier. For your information my Mom's brother was also a James Madison Whittier but born in Winnipeg, Canada. This family seemed to love using the same names which was fine until they had very large families. Sometimes two brothers or more would name their children the same name. It is rather easy to mix them up.
