When and how did Frederick James May(1887-1917) leave England for South Africa?

Frederick was a tailor and is in 1911 census as working at home making breeches.

He married Elsie Sturdy in Johannesburg South Africa in 1915.

My G Gran was born a May in England, 1863. her name was Frederica Margaret and she married Frederick Gilbert and they came out to South Africa. Her Dad was Harry May and married Emily (Sedgwick), I think they only had daughters. Harry's dad was Robert May and his wife was Sarah (Baker). I think they came from Kent. Don't know if this is any help at all.
