Advice before editing this pre-1700 Philp Pond profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Philip Pond. This is what I can add:

  • There is no Philip Pond born to Samuel Pond and Miriam Blatchley. All the genealogies that I have found so far for Samuel Pond and Miriam Blatchley including the "Genealogical Record of Samuel Pond and His Descendants" (a source used by the DAR to verify membership for Pond related members) show that this Samuel Pond married to MIriam Blatchley did not have a son named Philip born in 1669 or any other year.  (They were married in Jan of 1669) I suggest we delete this profile. There are other Philip Ponds out there but they are descended from Samuel Pond married to Thankful.

These are the sources I am using:

  • "Genealogical Record of Samuel Pond and His Descendants", Author:Daniel Streator Pond, compiler; Rochester, Lorain, Ohio, 1875; printed by George W. Runyan, Record Office, New London, Ohio; page 10 & 11; https://archive.org/details/genealogicalreco00pond/page/10/mode/2up
  • About Miriam Pond, profile on Geni.com - https://www.geni.com/people/Miriam-Pond/6000000003615955010
  • Find a Grave:Miriam Blatchley Pond, Memorial ID 133953860
  • RootsWeb.com: Samuel Pond - https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~davis4is/genealogy/ODTs/Pond.shtml

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Hi Cindy,

We never delete profiles on WT; if you do decide to disconnect Phillip from these parents you should leave a note with your sources both on his profile and on his parents profiles so future researchers will know what you based your decision on. Geni and RootsWeb (that link appears to be broken) are not acceptable sources for pre-1700 profiles, and FAG is very iffy (depending on whether there is a photo of the actual gravesite). In this case, I am not certain how it could be used to prove or disprove parentage.
