I need more info on Dr. John Wharton Alcocke. He was born 10 May 1813 in Virginia. He died 22 Jul 1874 in Harrison County, Texas. He is buried at Scottsville Cemetery in  Harrison County, Texas. This info is from Findagrave.com. City in Va where born is unknown. Parents are unknown. He married Ann Flournoy Smith 1816-1888 also from Virginia. They had a daughter Maria Louisa Alcocke 1836-1908 who was born in Spotsylvania County, Va. John was a doctor and per 1850 census resided in District 8 of Haywood, Tennessee at the age of 37. Per 1860 census at 47 years old he resides at Beat 2, Harrison, Texas. He died in 1874 at the age of 61. He has been a dead end on my tree so any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Here he is on line 9 in the 1840 census for Berkeley Parish, Spotsylvania County, VA (Jno W. Alcock, aged in his 20s, no wife or daughter apparent, though).

From a deed from late 1839 in which he mortgaged his land it is apparent that he owned land in Spotsylvania County. Unfortunately, the general index to Spotsylvania County deeds can be viewed only at a Family History Center or Affiliate Library, so I can't determine how he acquired this land (which would either give the person from whom he inherited, or the place from where he moved). Does anyone have access to the Spotsylvania deed indexes?
