Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland had a brother Edward.  Edward had an illegitimate son Thomas from whom the Bruce family of today is descended.  Two excellent and reliable websites on the Bruce lineage are  brucefamily.com/lineage and electricscotland.     Your James is in brucefamily.com but you must read carefully as the lineages are broken into baronies like Airth, Clackmanon, Kinniard, etc    I hope this helps.   C Evans
