On my suggestions Wikitree feed I had several 885 Using Top Level Category.....relating to the American Revolution.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Smith-88684

What's going on?  Did something change?  If so what is the new standard? How was the changes communicated?

It appears,...that once again, something is wrong in the American Revolution area.  Could someone please clarify what is going on?

It is wanting us to use the lower level, more specific categories. Think I corrected mine, by replacing with one that includes the place they served.  Saw several lower level options, but location was the one I chose.
I had the same issue with a profile someone assigned to me recently. I hope I corrected it correctly just now.

Edit...ah...maybe I didn't. I see Ros' post below. I was going by the help page...
Well, obviously I don't know what the heck I'm doing because even though there was an established category, it still went into the category review maintenance category.

Edit: YAY! Got it to categorize properly.

If we didn't fix it correctly, it will return to the list again and again, till we get it right  frown

eta: I got the CRMC also - going to consider this a work in progress and see if it is on my list next week.

I'm having the same problem. I'm sure many 1000's have encountered the same problem today.
Nancy, the sticker looks correct now.  Sorry you missed the announcement.

Ros, thanks for pointing this out. Unfortunately, the help pages have not yet been updated to reflect the changes. I wonder why? When I first tried to correct the problem to which my suggestion referred, I went directly to the help pages and made what I though was the correction based on those instructions, not what was posted in G2G last month. I'll bet many people will do the same unless they see your answer here.
What a mess! Still waiting to hear from the managers of the 1776 Sticker.
Who are the managers?  S J Baty...please provide a response.
Nelda, which help pages are you referring to?  The project page and sticker pages have been updated.

O Sisk, replied to you 38 minutes after you posted your querry on the profiel of Robert Allison.  Sorry it wasn't faster.  We're all volunteers here please allow some time for a response.

Hmmmm....well, the page now doesn't look like what I accessed earlier today. My bookmark went to the previous version of the page earlier today, but it's going to a page now which says: "This sticker is being retired and replaced with the new 1776 Sticker" and gives me a link to the new page.

Nelda, the old sticker pge was probably changed this afternoon.  The project page was changed some weeks ago. When you said "help page" I thought I had missed one. There are a lot of profiles that will need to be changed, it will be a work in progress for a while.

SJ, thanks. I'm not going crazy, after all. cheeky Anyway, someone passed this profile off to me this week because they were whittling down their Watchlist and thought I should now manage it. So it's the first week it has shown up on my suggestion list (may have had an error for a while) so the first thing I did was go to the page I had bookmarked and try to fix the template. Then I saw Ros' post and realized what I had done was using the obsolete template. I worked with it and I think I have it okay now (the suggestion list next week will tell the tale.) I've changed my bookmark to the new page now.

Military templates are very challenging to me--one of the most difficult things I've had to learn to do on WikiTree--so I'm glad to see this simplification. I know the template itself is just "fill in the blank" so that's not the hard part--the hard part is getting the unit/category right. Sometimes locating that in the category structure and knowing what wording to use in that "blank" is difficult. It is not always clear on the category page exactly what the category should be named. For example, for the category I needed to use today, it is nowhere on the category page I eventually found that if one wants to place a profile in that category you need to have this as the full name of the category: 1st North Carolina Regiment, North Carolina, American Revolution  That may be understood by those who have used these categories for a while, but, for me, it was not clear at all. I tried a couple of other ways of putting in the category/unit name and kept getting my profile placed in "category review maintenance category" instead of the real category. It took trial-and-error to finally stumble on the correct full name of the category.

Sorry to go on about this, but the military templates have been a huge challenge for me. I want to do this and I want to do it right, so I'm really trying to figure it out but it's just not "clicking" yet.

I changed the sticker to be 1776 Sticker.  Help Page for 1776 Sticker states that unit=Patriotic should be used for Patriotic Service, which is what the DAR record has.  I added the information about that to his profile, also.  Looking at the Category, it now has Patriotic Service, American Revolution, so it is not Top Level anymore.
