SJ, thanks. I'm not going crazy, after all. Anyway, someone passed this profile off to me this week because they were whittling down their Watchlist and thought I should now manage it. So it's the first week it has shown up on my suggestion list (may have had an error for a while) so the first thing I did was go to the page I had bookmarked and try to fix the template. Then I saw Ros' post and realized what I had done was using the obsolete template. I worked with it and I think I have it okay now (the suggestion list next week will tell the tale.) I've changed my bookmark to the new page now.
Military templates are very challenging to me--one of the most difficult things I've had to learn to do on WikiTree--so I'm glad to see this simplification. I know the template itself is just "fill in the blank" so that's not the hard part--the hard part is getting the unit/category right. Sometimes locating that in the category structure and knowing what wording to use in that "blank" is difficult. It is not always clear on the category page exactly what the category should be named. For example, for the category I needed to use today, it is nowhere on the category page I eventually found that if one wants to place a profile in that category you need to have this as the full name of the category: 1st North Carolina Regiment, North Carolina, American Revolution That may be understood by those who have used these categories for a while, but, for me, it was not clear at all. I tried a couple of other ways of putting in the category/unit name and kept getting my profile placed in "category review maintenance category" instead of the real category. It took trial-and-error to finally stumble on the correct full name of the category.
Sorry to go on about this, but the military templates have been a huge challenge for me. I want to do this and I want to do it right, so I'm really trying to figure it out but it's just not "clicking" yet.
