Hi,

I am looking for the parents of Francis Soden born 1827, Abergaveeny Wales, (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Soden-122), he and the rest of his decendents were Navvies, so his parents may be too.

I have seen information (unsourced) on various websites state he was chrsitened in Farnham Royal to an Elizabeth Soden, but I have found records, on Family Search which show something else. His marriage certficate shows his father was Richard, and using that I found a possible christening record and marriage record of his parents, Richard and Susannah, who use Soden and Sawden. However when searching site for the parents they do not mention Francis as their child.

Does anyone have any information on who his parents were? Or if I have enoughs sources from valuable places to add his parents as Richard and Susannah. Edit Just to add on multiple census` he says he was born in Abergavenny, but his marriage to Catherine Bryans was in 1858 County Fermanagh, Ireland and throughout his adult life he lived in various English counties.

Thankyou for your response

That must be the information other people have used. If that is the correct I wonder why he would not use the name the Charles on any census?

I had another look and i have found a marriage record for a Francis Loden and Catherine Bryans, that says his father his Richard

Name: Francis Loden
Spouse's Name: Catharine Bryans
Spouse's Birth Date: 1839
Spouse's Age: 19
Event Date: 18 Oct 1858
Event Place: Aghalurcher, Ferm, Ireland
Father's Name: Richard Loden
Spouse's Father's Name: John Bryans
Marital Status: Single
Spouse's Marital Status: Single
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M70218-7 , System Origin: Ireland-EASy , GS Film number: 101398 , Reference ID: 167

And then using that information

Name: Francis Soden
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 20 May 1828
Christening Place: MONKS RISBOROUGH,BUCKINGHAM,ENGLAND
Father's Name: Richard Soden
Mother's Name: Susanna

But on their marriage the surname is very different

Spouse's Name: Susannah Kingston
Event Date: 07 Apr 1827
Event Place: Burton Agnes,York,England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M10590-1 , System Origin: England-ODM , GS Film number: 919165

And other websites don't include Francis as a child.

Here is Francis as child of Richard and Susanna.

This gets very confusing. :)

Name: Richard Soden
Gender: Male
Spouse: Susanna
Child: Francis Soden

This record also shows a John Soden living in the same place as Richard.

I know this all seems pretty far-afield in finding Francis' parents but you never know where a clue may be found.

Betty
Thank you for the information, it seems as if I have a lot of information, the mention of berkshire is interesting as Francis wrote on one census that he was born there before changing to Abergaveeny

And apart from moving around a lot the names seem to alter too for his own chidlren!
Yes, indeed. I have found numerous spellings for my Scheurer ancestors. If you could find a sibling for Francis and coordinate the parent's names, that would make things easier.

I'll look around some more.

RE: the Such link

I have found the 1871 Census for Frederick P Such, born 1807 in Bath, living in Berkshire with his wife Hannah (Soden) age 55 Gloucester, son Alfred 16 Berkshire and relative Francis Soden 44 born in Abergaveny, https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VFX5-WPP

But there is another Abergavenny Soden, listed as Francis Loden, who is living in Oxfordshire with his wife Catherine and chidren, which match later census records and information about his children.

They both have the same ages and places of birth, so it may be a coincidence, they may be family, or even the same person.

Hi My Gr,Gr, Grandmother was Soden,

Louisa Soden, Born 1850, Married a Charles Cooke In 1869, B,ham

father George Soden & Mother Louisa Shilton
