I'm not sure. But according to my mom my grandpa on my dad's side was whole Cherokee. My dad's name is John Allen Kirby. That's all I know.

The first step is to build your tree back with documentation to your great-grandparents.  Did they live in the Cherokee Nation (in Oklahoma) or on the Qualla Boundary (North Carolina)?  Do they appear on the Dawes Roll (Cherokee in Oklahoma) or the Baker Roll (Cherokee in North Carolina)? Both of those rolls show a blood degree, so if they were  Cherokee you can calculate from there to yourself.
