Question

I want to adopt Levi Markham, born 1787. It says "no profile manager" but it won't let me adopt him.

Here's an answer from another thread:

I found a workaround, and then the issue resolved itself. I never did find out why I was unable to adopt the profile.

The workaround was that I went to the dropdown menu under my user ID and chose "Orphaned Family" -- I was able to find Marie from there, select her and adopt her. She then showed up as a profile I managed, so it worked. There are probably other workarounds if you can access other lists of orphaned profiles and find the profile you want to adopt on it. Sorry I don't have a more straightforward answer.

Levi Markham's profile was adopted by another member about an hour ago. Perhaps you were seeing a cached version that still showed "no profile manager."

The profile just let me adopt it again.  Susan, I think the easiest thing now would be for you to send a request to be on the Trusted List.  Then you don't have to give me your email address.

It let me adopt him and orphan him again...if we are talking about the same Levi: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Markham-3472

I would be willing to adopt him again, add you to the trusted list, then make you the manager and take myself off.  If you would like that, send me a private message giving me your email address.

But that doesn't solve the underlying problem of why it didn't work for you

I think Shirley Dalton's reason is the one.  Looks like Susan's computer was showing her a cached version.

As commented above, I am now the Profile Manager.  Susan, there is a link on the profile so you can request to be on the Trusted List.  I will approve your request, then make you the manager, then take myself off.  Hope that makes sense!

Success! Susan, I added you to the Trusted List, then made you Profile Manager, then removed myself from any management of this profile.  You are now the only Profile Manager and the only person on the Trusted List.

Maybe you didn't know that you could have made whatever improvements you like to that profile without being the manager.  

At least now that you are the manager, others should check in with you before making drastic changes,
