Robynne, you and I found the Doctor around the same era. Tom Baker was "my" Doctor for many years, as PBS showed re-runs once many years ago, and I tried to absorb every single episode I could find of Tom's series. Unfortunately, when he regenerated, I just couldn't get into any other of the Doctors, and years later I heard it had been cancelled.
Then the Doctor Who movie came out, followed by Eccleston and all the new Doctors. I've enjoyed all of them up to the newest one. Capaldi took a bit of getting used to, but eventually he found his stride. Whittaker was given a new approach, was Earth-bound at lot for her first season, and just didn't really feel like the Doctor at all. Of course, Capaldi had much the same issues his first year, so I've tried not to be too hard on her. Oh well - such is life. The only constant is change...
