George Witten married for the second time on this day in 1932. George was the third Australian officer of the Bush Veldt Carbineers to be tried for murder by the British Army during the Second Boer War. Death sentence commuted to life imprisonment, he was released upon return to Australia three years later, but never pardoned. His father died shortly before he reached home. George never had children and, by all reports, remained embittered all his life. He became a dairy farmer, happily living that busy but quiet life.
