Challenge of the week: Improve orphaned profiles [closed]

+13 votes

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our "Data Doctors" Challenge of the week?

Once again, Aleš has come up with something to help us work together on a category of profiles that need our help. This time it's "orphans," i.e. profiles without Profile Managers.

Here is the list of orphaned profiles that could use some TLC.

Will you join us?

Every time you record a status update it will earn you a point. The member with the most points at 11:59pm EDT on Sunday night will get the Winner badge this week and the bragging rights. But we'll all benefit from a neater, cleaner shared tree.

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. It's nice to cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

PS If you want to chat or coordinate what you are working on with others, in addition to this G2G post there is a handy spreadsheet courtesy of Steven Tibbetts.

  • Category 603 and 605:  completed.
  • Category 607 and 608:  all USA entries have been corrected.
  • Category 609:  no USA entries to correct.
  • Category 633:  completed.
  • Category 841, 842 and 843:  completed.
  • Category 861, 871:  completed.
  • Category 862:  all open profiles have been corrected.
  • Category 887:  all USA entries have been corrected.
I'll have a go with neighbours to my family tree.

Should I put back info on an Anonymous Anonymous profile that was later deleted by the person who created the profile?  The profile is orphaned with no one on the Trusted List.  The last deletion contained a great deal of information including sources, but the person died in 2012.  The information was deleted on Jan 2015.

Should I restore all the info or not?

Hello Janet,

I work on an iPad Air. I am unable to get the app to work on it even though I use Chrome. I wish I could use it.

I have started working in a rather round-about way on some orphans.  I started with looking for possible matches to people on my watchlist.  If any of those possible matches are orphans and there is too little information in the watchlist to determine whether they are matches to my ancestor, I have been looking for sources, dates, and locations for the potential match.  And I update their biography before rejecting the match.

Is there a way to get credit for this TLC since I don't approach from the list of orphan profiles?

(See Williams-4286 who is not a match for Williams-2297)

Fixed "Father too young" problem.  Father was actually brother. Added real father and mother and corrected relationships.  Whew! That's a lot of work. Will try to do a couple more.
