Were there really two Samuel Gortons?

Below is the source everyone seems to go by for the Gorton family in old New England

Gorton, Adelos,. The life and times of Samuel Gorton : the founders and the founding of the Republic : a section of early United States history and a history of the colony of Providence and Rhode Island plantations in the Narragansett Indian country now the state of Rhode Island, 1592-1636-1677-1687 : with a genealogy of Samuel Gorton's descendants to the present time. Philadelphia: unknown, 1907.

I have gotten back to Samuel Gorton, son of John and Patience as an ancestor but when you look them up, there seems to be two sons named Samuel, one born in 1703 who was lost at sea in 1723/4, and another born later who married a Mercy/Marcy and had children.  So, not sure how to proceed.  (I do find sources for the Samuel who married and had children.)

I believe that I answered my own question after studying the dates and info a bit more- it looks like 2nd son Samuel was born just after 1st son Samuel was lost at sea, and to father's 2nd wife.

Thanks you Marion Poole
