Are memories lost when a merge is made?

Question

WikiTree profiles have a Memories section where people can enter a personal reminiscence or story.  If a profile is merged with a duplicate profile then are those memories deleted?  If so, can a change be made so any memories on each are joined together?  

If they are not lost then how can they be found?  I told a new user to merge two duplicate profiles created by the user.  Now the user is upset because the long memory they made on one of the profiles has disappeared.

Are you sure that was on WikiTree? FamilySearch has a Memories section for each profile but WikiTree does not. Any images should remain with a merge here on WikiTree. The person finishing the merge can choose what remains in the Biography and the sources.

Certain profiles do have a memory section, but it cuts off somewhen between my 2-greats-grandfather's time and my 3-greats-grandfather's time.

Virginia, WikiTree does have a place for "Memories." It is at the bottom of the page, under sources, above the "Comments" section.

Melanie is right, it does cut off at some point, not sure what the exact date is, but I'm thinking it's about 1800-1850, so not available on profiles older than that.

2-greats-grandfather was born in 1835, died 1874.  He has a memory box.  His father was born 1803, died 1852.  He does NOT have a memory box.  ?-greats died 1847 does not have a memory box.

Melanie is right they only appear back to gg-grandparents. They are meant to be written in the first person.

Hi Peter,

Memories should be merged. It's possible that there was some bug today related to this morning's changes. If you email Jamie with the IDs of the merged profiles she can investigate.

It did not happen recently.
