Anyone interested in German Nobility and Aristocracy who would like to help work on a page?

Hello Wikitreers!

I have created a page which will be a list of the German Nobility and am seeking help.

This page has been created in response to this  G2G discussion - see the comments and answers, particularly by Chris Whitten, for why we are working on this task.

 If anyone is interested in helping to create and work on this task, feel free to make edits and improvements. If you have any questions ask below.

Kylie, why not make this page in German instead and let the English version you created point at it?

It's a point I made often already, if you want more Germans to participate in the Germany Project, then using German in the first place and not English is key IMO.

As Dieter has pointed out this list exist already on Wikipedia and can be taken over quickly I assume (for those profiles that exist).

I do not speak or write German. Creating a translated copy of the page and linking to each at the top is the goal for all Germany project pages.

Anyone who can do this is free and encouraged to please do so. I have already asked my translation team to do this for the main project page. I think one big translation task request by me at a time is reasonable enough.

But if anyone with the skills is willing to do this, please feel free. Let me know, and make it happen.

The other thing I noticed is that the example you're referring to (France) is only a list of Monarchs. Not the whole French nobility.

So what's your intention with this space? What's the purpose of it?

As you wrote, every translation counts, so does every task.

On German Wikipedia is a long list with the German Aristocracy.

The list includes only noble families in the German-speaking world (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, German Bohemia and German Moravia and - partially - Poland and Italy), which are already included in the German Wikipedia. Foreign genders that do not belong to the German-speaking area or to the Holy Roman Empire are not included here.

You would be missing the Courlanders entirely then which are part of this grouping and have their own Starke Adels - although I don't believe that the contract is renewed but they have their own society of current nobles

The Courland (Kurland) was never part of the Holy Roman Empire or the German Empire, so they do not count to the German Aristrocracy.

Courland was part of the so called Ordensstaat, a independent state of the Teutonic Order (Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem).

So then are we just not developing another layer of a make work project when there is so much other work to be done.  Everyone is covered by the existing title and then you don't have to slice up families - it would be more sensible to identify their monarchical and noble houses to aid searching on the internet - that would be a much more useful project and a better use of time

Interesting - so my fourth great grandfather was Colonel the Baron Georg Freidrich Wilhelm (George) von Pfeilitzer gen Franck (Baron Pfeilitzer )

I understand that there was a general European category and this BGN category was developed by Dr. Kelsey Williams 


I wonder how the German Baltic nobility fit (albeit with the Polish-Lithuanian component) - in to these plans - some of these families/individuals are matriculated in up to five countries and of course married with other nobility.

Awesome! Thank you so much. I was just adding a whole heap of wikitree-ID's and when I went to save it, someone was editing at the same time, so it would not save. I need a little break before attempting again.

I've added links to the other medieval monarchs, there are just the latest ones to go.  I couldn't find profiles for 2 of them. The 4 profiles listed under the Interregnum heading are the same as the first 4 under the Changing dynasties heading I haven't deleted anything but they probably don't need to be repeated.

Some of the profiles have incorrect LNABs and most need more work in one way or another.

Sorry to be so late (been busy) but I'm a descendant on German aristocracy (the von Hippel family - see Wikipedia, the article is only available in German unfortunately but Chrome lets you Google Translate it) and quite a while back added a large number of these profiles to WikiTree.

They are in need of a lot of work - a lot of it is inaccurate due to transcription errors and there are a lot of missing people. I have the correct info, it's based off what seems to be a well-sourced family tree but I don't have the sources. I've been wanting to do something about this for months now, but just haven't had the time. Maybe someone who knows more about German sources would be able to properly source and correct the profiles?

I'm not sure how or where you want to mention them on your page but I imagine they probably fit in somewhere.

I admire your enthusiasm Kylie.

In my part of the world I'd call it 'diving in the deep end'. First step is dive. Then, afterwards, ask yourself : 1) how deep is this water? then 2) how strong are the currents?

I can only give morale support. I know nothing about German Nobility. My German ancestors were farmers and miners.
