New member introducing myself

Hello there. I've been searching for answers to a family mystery on Ancestry.com and thought I'd create a profile here and give WikiTree a shot.  Family legend has it that we are descendants of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria (my great grandfather supposedly being an illegitimate son).  I hit a dead end when it comes to my great grandfather's parents. I've been unable to locate information on his life in Austro Hungary.  (I also haven't paid to search European databases either, perhaps I should? )  What is incredible and the reason for my curiosity is the fact that so many in my family look like him and his children/grandchildren. Maybe coincidence, but there really is a striking resemblance. Has anyone done research on Franz Joseph that could be helpful?  Thanks!

If you look up Franz Joseph of Austria at Wikipedia, you can find his birth year and death year and other information. He is also at WikiTree as Joseph-1885

better profile is https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Habsburg-Lothringen-12

and because of the complicated naming system of the European royalty, that took a lot of digging starting off with Magaret rose Windsor, then back to queen Victoria, then through her daughter Victoria and then using a wikipeadeia article  see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_tree_of_the_German_monarchs  then  correlating the wikitree entries with the wikipedia entries and  working out how her husband  was related to Franz Joseph. URG

and the two profiles should be merged see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Joseph-1885

Hi Rustine, and welcome to WikiTree. The first thing I would like to say is why pay for information when you have so many people that are willing to help you get it on WikiTree, and you don't have to pay a dime?

Frank Gill says that Franz Joseph already has a profile here, so maybe you just need to start researching your own family and see where it leads you.

Will Palmer has also given you some excellent sources so you already know how friendly our community is.

Good luck on your search, and welcome to WikiTree again.
