It would be great if you'd provide links (on Prudent Bertel's profile page) to more information about evidence that supports (or not) the son or nephew designation. I.e., what evidence exists that supports him being a son? What suggests that he is more likely a nephew.
As I've posted elsewhere, especially in earlier centuries, "Sr" and "Jr" designations on records were not always used to identify a father and son, but simply an older and younger person by the same name.
