Can someone help me find Thomas Dolan?

My great grandfather's headstone states his father is Thomas Dolan and his mother is Mary McGovern.  That's where I'm lost.  My great grandfather was born in Ireland (not sure where), so I'm sure Thomas and Mary would have to be there also.  Not even sure if McGovern was her maiden name or previously married name.  Your time is greatly appreciated.  Thank  you!

We are looking for a John Dolan born to a Thomas Dolan and a McGovern in 1838.

I’ve spent many hours researching my McGovern ancestors, and given a Dolan marrying a McGovern, I would be willing to bet your GGF and mother are from county Cavan.  Assuming so, here are a few possibilities:

  1. John Dolan born 23 Dec 1838 and baptized in Drumlane Parish.   Parents are John (not Thomas) and Mary (no maiden name provided).  Unfortunately I can’t make out the name of the townland they are from (https://share.icloud.com/photos/026Znlkbn4FTB4UnazLVUxm7w), but here’s a link to the map of the townland Drumlane, which is within the parish.  Drumlane Townland, Co. Cavan
  2. Unlike most counties, Cavan retains some of the 1841 and 1851 censuses.  From the 1841 census we have John Dolan age 3 (birthdate 1838) in the townland of Derrindrehid (map here Derrindrehid Townland, Co. Cavan ). However the parents are Michael and Fanny.  See attached. https://share.icloud.com/photos/02bwIKcdPnoUzayx0wJUoKUvA
  3. Again from 1841, John Dolan age 3, living in Port ( Port Townland, Co. Cavan). Parents are John and Mary.  See attached. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0eeH22YrTMozB4XrnkqmO1NKQ
  4. And from 1851 there is a John Dolan age 13 (birth year 1838) in the townland of Ardmoneen (Ardmoneen Townland, Co. Cavan). This one is interesting because the mother is Mary and it appears father is deceased.  See attached. https://share.icloud.com/photos/061Jd9uJpDrJgwm6PLhQm9uYQ

I could do more, but it would be helpful to have more information….siblings, obituaries, anything that might have a reference to county or even parish.  Of course, it might not be Cavan.  Leitrim would be my next choice, but I still believe Cavan.

Regards!

I just met someone at the East Coast Genetic Genealogy Conference whose family tree includes these two people.  See the Blaser-Dolan-Bands-Spittal tree on Ancestry.

My great grandfather is John Dolan of County Fermanagh.  Let me know if you have any relation to him.  His grandfather was likely another Thomas Dolan.
