Info on the Ship "Supply"

+3 votes

I recently came across a page here on Wikitree for a ship named "Supply" that is called a "companion ship to the Mayflower."  It looks to me like someone has taken the details from the "Speedwell" which was supposed to travel with the "Mayflower" and attempted to force them to fit with the details from the "Supply" which was a totally different ship.  The "Supply" arrived in Virginia in January 1620 and had nothing to do with the Pilgrims who were on the Mayflower that arrived in Plymouth in November 1620.

Category: Supply, sailed Sept 1620

Anyway, I believe the reference to the Mayflower needs to be removed from this page, and the rest of the details probably need to be checked too.  I have never edited a Category page before, so I wasn't certain of the procedure for doing so.

Sandra, I added the categorization tag to your post, to catch the attention of that project as well. Hope this helps!

Thank you.  I don't know much about how to make Categories work, so I will leave that to the experts.  I have removed the incorrect information and added the following note to the top of the page:

NOTE: On several websites, the Supply has been mixed up with the Speedwell, the ship that was supposed to accompany the Mayflower, the ship that transported the Plymouth Pilgrims. The Supply landed in Virginia in January 1620, many months before the Mayflower and the Speedwell even began their voyage. The Supply may have been the companion of a different ship named Mayflower, as Mayflower was a popular ship name during this time.

It also needs to be moved to a free-space page instead of being on a category page!

I support Natalie's opinion..
From my limited experience in Wikitree, I believe that there are too many Category Pages and way-way too many links between one level of Category in Wikitree and another. I support use of free-spage pages.

However, I think it's important to find a way to make it easier to jump forward from Categories to Free-space pages and back again.

I'm working in a couple of test sites:
The Supply category page is listed on the Jamestown Index page.  This lists most categories of Jamestown..

FYI   Jamestown was a place on the eastern coast of America, where many early emigrants landed from England.. It then becamea colony, way before there were any states.   It is a subproject of US Southern Colonies
