Question

Am looking for information on Joel J.(not sure) Smith born April 1816 in South Carolina.  Married Elizabeth E Gains (1819) in Houston County, Georgia.  Fathder of Thomas Almond Smith born 1846 in Johnson County, Georgia.

I have not been able to find any parent info on Joel.

Is anyone else working on this line of family?

Also  did  this  joel Smith  participate  in the  civil  war  and  his  widow  Elizabeth obtain  pension as  well  as  for a minor?  Civil  War  pension  index. 1864 Nov 21 -widow-72864  1867 Dec minor 155982 D Parker Grd.  Tenn  Inf
Found marriage list  for Houston Co, Ga
1820-1852 with  the  name Joel Smith and  Elizabeth Lane   could  this  be  it? Georgia Genealogy  trails. I was  unable  to  paste  the  site  here

Elizabeth G Gains is the incorrect person

The 1844 Houston County, Georgia marriage license is correct  I think the Layne spelling is what they heard for Gain.  But all other info fits. Elizabeth was in Houston County according to Census befor and after this date as a Gain and a Smith

I cannot find any military infor for this Joel Smith especially in Tenn.

lists Elizabeth Gain as  wife of  Joel

Yes I found this also, but this is the wrong Joel Smith.  I kn ow for a fact he is buried in Georgia.
