This is an interesting article.  I have been doing research for over 35 yrs and found early last year that I was related to John Adams.  And so I enjoy reading these articles.  John Adams is my 4th cousin 8 x removed!
I’m not related to President Adams however I’m cousin to some presidents. No direct lineage as of yet. Amazingly good insight of 1777 in the letters between President Adams and his wife Abigail. I might be distant cousin to Abigail.

My Belcher family built a home in 1666 in Braintree.  The Adams family 75 feet from this home tor generations.  Eventually John Adams purchased the Belcher home.  He thought it was better situated.  Both homes are now part of Adams National Park which also includes Peacefield down the road several blocks.

In the correspondence between Abigail and John Adams the Belcher family is referred to several times as John was gone often and Abigail needed help with the farm and other issues with the household.  The actual handwritten letters are indexed and can be read on line, including their transcriptions.

My Belchers came to San Francisco about 1900 but most of of Belcher cousins still live in or near Braintree 350 years later.

My family knew nothing of any of this until I started researching our genealogy in 1998.

What a great read. Thank you! Abigail Adams’ description of her fear on getting the letter was perfect.
