Looking for Lewis Hay, Scotland

Lewis Hay born c. 1695 was father to James Hay b. 1736 in Kirkmichael and Tomintoul in Banffshire. I'm trying to make the link between him and the Hay family as records show his mother was Grissell Fletcher but her husband was James Preston and not a Hay. She was possible married to Brigadier William Hay? or had an illegitmate child by him? Why would Lewis have the name "Hay"?

Father's name Lewis Hay, mother's name Margaret Watson
