If you mean a scanned image of the actual death certificate, on the profile page, click the Images tab and you will be able to upload the file from your computer.

If you mean a citation for the death certificate, there are two ways.

  • The easiest is to add a new line below the <references /> at the very bottom and start with an asterisk (*) as the first character (you can't have a space before it - it must be the very first character on the line in order for it to be interpreted as a code that will create a bullet on the view page).  Then add your citation text, preferably with a link to a webpage where the record can be seen.
  • The more advanced way is to use what we call an inline source.  If you put <ref> … </ref> at the place in the text that has the statement supported by the death certificate (with the citation in the space where I showed the 3 dots) then it will display on the view page as a numbered footnote under the Sources heading, with a superscript number at the place in the text where you put the code.  The superscript number will be a link to the footnote.

Oops - I just looked at Louisa Farley's profile that you linked and I see that you successfully uploaded a pdf file that contains the image of the death certificate.  Good job!

You might be confused by the fact that a pdf file is *NOT* an image file, but is a complete document that can contain both text and image content.  WikiTree allows us to upload pdf files the same way as image files, but only displays the icon for a pdf file - you have to click on it in order to see the document.  If you copy the image that is in the pdf file, then paste it into a graphic editor in your computer, you can save it from there as a .jpg file.  That is an image format and if you upload that file (or a .png or .gif, which are also image formats) then the image itself will be displayed on the profile instead of just the icon for the pdf file.
