Yes, that letter can easily be confused with a capital "C". If you look at the first example (from the 1665-1700 churchbook), you will see the same initial letter in the first name in the entry below it ("Lübberdt"), and in the entry above it you will see the capital "C" used for the first name ("Curdt"). If you compared the Curdt and the Lüdeke, you will see that the initial letter is distinguished only by the squiggle at the very top.
