Biobuilders October 2020 - One Place Studies

This month’s Bio Builders Challenge theme is One Place Studies. Looking for biographies of people for one place, your choice. If the place doesn’t have an existing study, start one. Check this link for existing studies -  One Place Studies

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • names of children, if any
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • Some list siblings. (I think this takes up real estate.)
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

Is the theme for One Place Studies in the link or can you work on biographies all from one place?  Unfortunately, I don't have time to start a One Place Study and there isn't one  associated with the area I am researching.
Bios from one place, even if not on the list, are OK. Make sure you ID the place, and only one place per biographer.
Is this supposed to be where they were born or where they passed?
NM - found the info - where they were born, lived, or died.
Any one of the three.
Bio builder spreadsheet needs updating for most participants appreciate it if it could be updated

I have participated each month but having nothing listed for 3 months.

Thank you in advance of the update
QUESTION????

If as a child of a parent that has been genealogically defined, is the child genealogically defined in their own biography if they NEVER MARRIED????

(Example: Elizabeth Holmes is a child of Jedediah and Elizabeth and Father and and mother's biography is genealogically defined...the daughter never married...so in her own biography she'd be genealogically defined to her parents but does the category go in her profile?[probably should have asked the question that way the first time])
If the child’s death is sourced, and the fact that they never married Is also sourced, the answer is YES.
If you create new profiles as part of improving a profile - Do the new profiles count as well?
If the new profile has a complete bio, it counts.
Thank you

There's hardly any UK one place study categories on Wikitree! I don't really see the purpose of having one name place studies as a category if the place already had it's own category...just seems to be another unnecessary category layer.

Does the place have to be a town/village, or could it be a cemetery, as I'm currently working on taking photos of leaning gravestones at my local cemetery that are in imminent danger of falling over or being pushed over by the "stability testing" team.

I've created a category for the Cemetery St. Johns Cemetery, Margate and will be working on adding profiles to these, even if they don't count towards this months goal!

I've also created a freespace page for the Cemetery! St. John's Cemetery, Margate where I am adding photos and connected profiles

If it's OK to include these:

#1 Frank Thomas Wells

#2 Charles Frank Wells

#3 Amelia Emily Wells

#4 Alfred Sladden Wells

created profiles and connected them to the tree by building their line back (still need to work on the connecting profiles)

# 5 Anthony Wilson Davies - now connected - and unconnected as connected tree has errors! he should now be connected at last - that took a while!

#6 Caroline "Lina Dalrymple" Forsyth nee Eyre - now connected to the tree

#7 Edward Parker

#8 Sarah Parker nee Gallifont/Galliphant - at last - Edward and Sarah should now be connected to the main tree!

#9 Edward Robinson

#10 Sophia Robinson nee Atkins

#11 John Bowen - connected

#12 Mary Ann Bowen nee Dennis - connected

#13 Rachel Ann Robinson

#14 Edward aka Peter Robinson

#15 Johann Friedrich aka John Frederick Lindenberger

#16 Bertha Jemima Lindenberger nee Shelley

We are still recovering from Hurricane Sally - and then I broke my leg - and now my husband has a kidney stone. I missed doing the Source-a-thon - but I will try to work on a few here. I will probably choose Alabama or Florida. Is this supposed to be where they passed or were born?

I've been working on this and didn't even realize it (I'm always BioBuilding even if it's not part of the months challenge): These are from my Stonington One-Place Study. Anyone looking for more profiles that need biographies they can be found here. (1st link takes you the Study information, 2nd link ("here") takes you to the page where all of the profile in the study so far are.)

Martha (Patty) Noyes

John Fish: Spent 3 months on this that's why I've been MIA

Jedediah Holmes,Sr.: Full biography w/inline citations, Genealogically Defined. (Note, have a book coming in the mail on Wed, so might be adding more info to what is already there...book already cited.)

Elizabeth Sanford (Frink) Holmes: Full biography w/inline citations, Genealogically Defined.

Elizabeth Sanford (Holmes) Luther: In progress (last three are all connected)

Lucy Holmes-Full biography w/inline citations
