My father Charles Robert Kingyens, was born July 1921 and passed away June 1946.

I'm looking for documents when he was growing up in the Dungannon Township,

[Hastings County]  community.

Sorry but you'll be waiting a long time. The 1931 census for Canada won't be released to the public until after 2023. The 1921 census was just released a couple of years ago.

As Eugene already indicated the 1931 Census of Canada won't be available for another decade. Your best bet is probably to look for local newspapers like the Bancroft Times. The local newspapers of that time often have a suprising amount of detail, particularly for "small" communities - the 'society' pages often reported who went where, who visited whom, who had taken ill, school graduations, and of course Birth/Marriage/Death information.

In 1940, the government had a wartime compulsory national registration for adults 16 and older. That link shows what information was included in the registration, and there is quite a bit of it. Statistics Canada holds these forms and you can order them for around $50, but it looks like their order form is unavailable right now.

I found the Ontario Genealogy website with lots of information.

Here is the link to the Hasting County

http://www.ontariogenealogy.com/hastingscounty1892directory.html

You will have to register to get the information but it is FREE and like I said, lots of information is available.
