Anyone who has done genealogy research in Columbia County, Pennsylvania with ties to the Laubach, Cole, and Hess families knows they intertwine multiple ways (I have at least 5; starting with a great-uncle who married a Hess cousin, common ancestor William Hess Sr.and Anna Catherine Goddard).
I've always wondered if the same applies to the Best families of Northampton, Clinton and Bucks Counties.
Here's what I know...
Maria Best b. 1723 in Williams Twp, Northampton, Pennsylvania and d. 1797. She married John Conrad Hess 1741 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
(NOTE: I have found where researchers have the above Maria Best listed as a daughter to the below Jacob and Catherine; if dates are correct, it is impossible for the above Maria to be their daughter, as there is only 5 yrs difference between father and daughter).
What I know of Jacob and Catherine:
Jacob Best b. 1718 in New Britain Twp., Bucks County, Pennsylvania; d. March 8, 1789 Britain Twp., Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania at Hay Cemetery (Source: Find-a-Grave).
Jacob Best m. Catherine (aka Anna Catherine) Leferve. She was b. Dec. 15, 1724 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania and d. July 22, 1816 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania; also buried in Hay Cemetery (Source: Find-a-Grave).
Children of Jacob and Catherine:
Conrad (1745-1826) m. Hanna Weigart (1751-1827); their son Peter Best had a daughter, Catherine Best (1808-1881) m.George Bartholomew, their son Henry Bartholomew m. Lucinda Bartholomew (they were cousins).
Christina (1750-1822) m. Jacob Dech (1746-1833); their daughter, Elizabeth m.Christian Laubach who had a son, Jesse m. Catherine Lamb Allison and it's their daughter, Ida Adelia Laubach m. Enoch Sylvester Bartholomew (son to Henry and Lucinda Bartholomew and paternal grandparents to my grandmother).
A saying my grandmother used a lot, "No, I'm not my own Grandpa."
I also have an ancestry line to Nicholas Best, brother to Jacob. However, my mystery is with Maria Best...
