Andrew, there appear to be several men of the same name from New York serving in different regiments. Some can be ruled out by dates.

New York Civil War Muster Roll Abstracts 1861-1900 gives you his place of birth as Albany County, New York, occupation as farmer and age at enlistment (Aug 1862) as 21 and confirms Co K of the 106th.
I'm unsure of Fold3's parenthetical numbering after names. If this is meant to designate the same person, it would appear the same John Bartley may have enlisted April 1861 in New York City and deserted (11th infantry).
Another (or same) John Bartley age 21 on 24 Nov 1861 enlisted at Fort Plain in NY State Artillery Brigade. I do not see further info on that person/enlistment.
Absent date information on some of these records, it's not possible for me to tell which other records for John Bartley may pertain to the same man.

I see no information here regarding his death other than the place.
