How can a last name at birth be corrected in a profile?

+1 vote
I am not seeing a way to edit a last name at birth. My ancestor, Dorcas Waite, was entered as  Waite_or_White_in_some_cases-1 by her profile manager. I commented about it but have not heard anything back. I know the correct name is Waite. I have been to her grave site and all our family records indicate Waite. It's not a big deal, just rather annoying!

Only the Profile Manager, or someone on the Trusted List, can change the LNAB.

I suggest you request TL access, and give it a few days before proceeding with an Unresponsive Profile Manager action.
Use the name from the earliest source or that her father was using at the time. Put any variants in Other Last Names. She may have changed the spelling herself as an adult.

Marguerite, profile managers are sometimes busy with their lives and don't always respond right away, so you should allow the manager at least a week … maybe two … to get back to you.

Melanie's advice to request access to the trusted list of the profile is probably the best thing you can do right now, but you could also send a private message to the profile manager.  Be sure to explain that this is your ancestor and state your sources for the correct LNAB.  It would be wonderful if you had an official source for the correct LNAB, rather than a Find a Grave entry and family records but, unfortunately, sometimes that's the best we can do.  It certainly will be a great improvement over Waite_or_White_in_some_cases!

If the manager does not respond in a week after you have tried all these ways of contacting him/her, then you might have to go the Unresponsive Profile Manager route.  After that, the WikiTree team will attempt to contact the manager and if he/she does not respond to that, then they will orphan all open and public profiles, delete all private ones, and close the manager's WikiTree account.  You would then be able to "adopt" your ancestor's profile, thereby becoming its manager.
