Finwick/Fenwick: can someone check parish register for Paisley, Renfrewshire

0 votes

This family used the name Fenwick as a given name for a quarter of a millennium, always spelling it Fenwick, except for this one christening entry, which was transcribed as Finwick.  This baby grew up and spelled it Fenwick for the rest of his life.

Does anyone have access to see if the transcriber made a guess, or whether it is clearly Finwick in the parish register?  FamilySearch implies that the document can be viewed at a family history site or affiliate library -- probably all closed for covid...but just thought i'd ask.

It appears to be available to view (for purchase) via Scotland's People.

Thanks so much, Bobbie!  I'm just trying to help connect a notable to the tree, so i won't be purchasing it...what should i do next?  Should i start a new question asking if there is someone with an account who could look it up?  Or is Scotland's People entirely pay-per-view?

Honestly, I don't think I would worry too much about the difference in spelling. Scotland's People transcribers are pretty meticulous, so that's probably a best guess on their transcription in the index. Then you have a separate group indexing for Family Search and they too used the Finwick spelling. At least it's his middle name, not his surname! Record it as Finwick in the data fields, and then note in his bio that the spelling changed over his lifetime.
