There are 8 Barbara Coombs (with various spellings) born in 1927 in the 1930 US Census. There are fewer in the 1940 census. Do you have any information as to where the family may have lived, in addition to Barbara’s place of death, that suggest one of these is your family? These are available at Family Search (online for free).

Also, you should be able to get your grandmother’s death certificate. These normally name the decedent’s parents, if the informant knew who they were. (Fee required.)

If you have her social security number you could do a freedom of information act request for her social security card application. This may have her parent’s names. (Fee required.)

Thank you for the suggestion..I will use it for a few other people I'm trying to find. I have no relationship with any family members so no one really to ask questions. Appreciate your help very much
