New member introducing myself

Hello, I am John E. Piatt, I have been studying and recording family history since 1964. My paternal surnames are LeFleur, Peat', Piat, Pyatt, Peyatte, Piatt, Peatt, Harriman, Harman, Harmon, Howell, Palmer, Hayslip, Trotter, Black, Dunham, Waddell. Maternal surnames I research are Hayes, Lane, Gillilan, Ours, Quivey, Young, Barton, Baily, Perdun, Greave, Gandee, Chandler, Cloud.

I also have researched and recorded my wife's family since 1967, Paternal surnames include; Divine, O'Connor, Huddleston, Barber, Barbour, Pence, Shidler, Shideler, Penn, Iams, Plummer, Cheney and  maternal surnames of Beh, Leonard, Harvey, Fleury, Sheehan, Bulger.

My wife of 53 years and I live in Historic Western Ohio just north of Dayton, We were both born in Columbus, OH.

We have two sons, two daughter-in-laws and three grown grandchildren. While retired I still work as Information and Reference Coordinator for the very historic Piqua Public Library,

I am an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Green Bay Packer and New York Yankee fan since I was a boy in 1950's

Hi John, welcome to the tree!  That's a lot if years in doing genealogy!  Jeez, I'm only at 22 years now, so I commend your commitment to it.  I would image it was much harder for you in the beginning, without the internet accesses to records.  I know when I first started about 1998, internet was still very new to me, I didn't begin even finding records online I think till 99, and even then they were far and few between, it was more a thing of finding the people who had gone to libraries and archives and then posted the records from these places.

I recognize a few of your names for you and your wife.

Lefleur is a "dit" name of a few different Canada Families, many of which bounced between Canada, NY, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states that border Canada.

Young in Canada is derived from LeJeune (the word lejeune in Archives in Nova Scotia (Acadia) was used within records to describe a "younger sibling" who shared the same name as an older one. Lejeunes started using dit with the Name Young, I think it was late about mid 1800s, and as the the 1800s came close to ending, about 1880's 90's we see more of the Lejeunes only using the Young surname although their parent may have used LeJeune throughout their whole lives.  (Since you work at a library as an information and Reference Coordinator you  probably already know all of this, especially with all the years you've been at it.

Fleury is another that is found in Canada.

I have LeJeune maternal MtDNA matches back about that time in NS, wow didn't know about the surname becoming Young will have to check it out!! It's in a brick wall line in Tennessee and Georgia. Thank you!

I have my 5th great maternal grandmother as a brick wall. She died in Tennessee but can't find her parents. U4c1 is my mtDNA haplogroup.
