The Ancestry of Europe's Royal and Princely Houses: what's there and what isn't (October 2020 Edition)

This is the third iteration of my attempt to keep track of where we stand with the core of the European higher nobility (previous versions were posted in January and February 2020).  To briefly rehearse, it should theoretically be possible to identify most if not all 2,046 ancestors in the first ten generations of the pedigree of most reigning European monarchs, pretenders, and other members of reigning / Hochadel houses.  Rarely do we have full coverage of those ten generations on Wikitree, but we're improving!  See below and the attached comments (as this takes up quite a lot of characters) for details and scroll down to the final comment for a summary of the state of play.

Enjoy!  (and please feel free to help)

Portugal

. . . is [still] a mess.  Princess Isabel (1846-1921) is on Wikitree but not, so far as I can tell, her son Luis and thus not one of the major lines of Brazilian-Portuguese pretenders. King Manuel II (1889-1932) appears with no parents and overall it looks as if there needs to be some major work on the house of Bragança before anything else is even attempted.

There have been multiple claims by Romanov kinsmen and women of Nikolai II, but the two widely accepted ones have been those of the Kirillovichi and Nikolaevichi whose most recently deceased heads were:

Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovich (1917-1992), the Kirillovichi pretender from 1938 to 1992

Out of 2046 possible ancestors in 10 generations, 1033 (50.49%) have WikiTree profiles [previously 49.02%].  587/1033 (56.82%) are duplicates due to pedigree collapse.  His three most recent ancestors missing one or both parents are:

The State of Play

Spain is over 70% and Austria over 80% complete with several others not far behind.  On the other hand, Portugal is still in quite a state and Monaco remains almost as fragmentary.

Are there any individuals/states you'd like to see added to this list?  Two extra-European (former) monarchies with strong European ties who might be good inclusions are Brazil and Georgia . . . .

WOW very impressive work. You should put this on New Project page. I would be referring to it all the time.

Thanks, Richard!  That's a good idea about putting this on a permanent page - I'll look into it.

Very impressed, indeed! Ones that could possibly be added at some point are:

* Albania, represented by https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Zogolli-1, and very thin.

* Bulgaria, unfindable

* Greece, represented by https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Gl%C3%BCcksburg-3, and to my eye in need of work.

* Romania, all I can find being https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Romania-1

And I admire your patience in trying to track down European royals and nobles when WikiTree goes to such ingenious lengths to conceal them. Is it the staunch republicanism of the US membership, determined to subvert research into decadent Old World aristos?

by Living Flower G2G6 Mach 1 (13.2k points)
Thanks, Stanley!  These are all excellent additions and I'll see what I can do to add them.

And, yes, one does feel there's a certain militant attempt at social levelling inherent in WT's naming conventions.  They would certainly agree with the revolutionaries that Louis XVI should simply be 'Citoyen Capet'.
