I'm searching for my great great grandfather. I do not know his name, but I do know my great grandfather's information. I have found two different men listed as his father. My Great Grandfather was: Granville Columbus Marcengill - born July 8, 1854 and died October 3, 1940. On the 1860 census it lists him and his mother Francis Marsongill.

Where were they in 1860 and where did he die in 1940? That is the best place to start. Check the 1850 census for Francis/Frances (spelling variations), and marriage  records, and try to find a death certificate, where he died.

Granville Columbus Marcengill is

I found my gggrandfather, He was Robert T. Marcengill (or one of the many spellings) I now have a copy of where he Mary Francis Price got married. March 18, 1852.  My ggrandfather was born in 1854. I do not know when my gggrandfather died, but would have been before the 1860 census.  Any help in finding when Robert T. Marcengill died and anything about his other children with the same last name. will be appreciated.
Congratulations!  That is always a wonderful feeling when you make a break through!
thank you

"South Carolina Deaths, 1915-1965," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N9V7-JFM : 18 July 2017), Granville Columbus Mareengill, 04 Oct 1940; citing , Mareengill, Granville Columbus, 1940, Department of Archives and History, State Records Center, Columbia; FHL microfilm 1,943,885.

It is possible that the person giving the parental information was not sure of the actual names and guessed. Or Robert T was Robert Theodore and was nicknamed Ed

thank you for finding this for me

It's been worked out on multiple Ancestry trees and on FamilySearch:  https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/MCDL-5MW.  His death certificate lists his parents as Ed Marcengill and Frankee Coffee.  Not sure why it says Ed, as their marriage record in Rabun, Book C calls him Robert T. (free link).  She was called Price in that record because she was the widow of Silas Price; they married on 19 Mar 1835:  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FW64-XJL
