Early Virginia Colonist needs help: Roger Williams

Question

I didn't know that there was a Roger Williams of the early south. Now I do. At least I think I do. This profile has been a rather confusing conglomeration of facts-- probably about multiple men with the same name.  We're trying to make it be one profile about one man-- an early settler of Virginia who died there in 1677. Probably the husband of Katherine Clayton (who does not appear to have a profile yet) and later Joan (named in will).

Seeking US Southern Colonies Project Volunteers who can help figure out who this man was, and get him a decent and sourced narrative.

Fascinating. IF this Roger Williams of early Virginia was son of Sydrach/Sidrach Williams (and there appears to be support for it being so), then this Roger Williams of Virginia was nephew of the famous Roger Williams of Rhode Island!

I, too, have been trying to document one Roger Williams (b. ? Eng. or VA d. (or will proved?) 2 May 1677 VA).  He was supposedly the son of Sydrach Williams & Mrs. Anne Pinner, and grandson of James Williams & Alice Pemberton.  The parents and grandparents may have remained in England and Roger was the immigrant.

Roger may have married 2nd to one Jane/Joan Frith, dau of Nathaniel Frith & Joan Parsons.

Among the supposed children of this Roger Williams are one Ruth Williams who married John Canterbury and Joan Williams who married Cornelius Kincheloe.

I have just recently started to work on these folks and have not entered a profile for any of them into WikiTree as I don't have any acceptable documentation for them.  In fact, I don't even know that the names are correct, so it might be quite some time before I might be comfortable listing them in WikiTree.

I would venture a bet that there are others on here who have more information on this Roger Williams and his family connections, with good sources for them.  Such other researchers would be more appropriately the ones to enter profiles for the above people into Wiki Tree.

I think your Roger Williams is the same person as the one who already has a profile, above.  Perhaps use this particular thread (the answer thread you started here) to compile what sources you do have for him? And if it becomes clear it's a separate person, we can create a new profile if another one doesn't already exist.

When it seems that information about multiple people with the same name have been conflated, I sometimes find it helpful to start creating separate biographies on the same profile -- Biography of Person A, Biography of Person B, Facts that could fit A or B, etc.  It makes it a lot easier to see what you're up against -- and to move things around -- than if they're on different profiles.  

The objective, of course, is to develop some clarity on who the different people are, and THEN the biographies can be easily copied to separate profiles.

Wow, there's been a merge proposal war going on since 2017... :-)

Multiple people have been trying to merge these two profiles that both appear to represent the same man who died by January 1677 when will proven. But there appears to be disagreement about his origins and his marriages.

His will names a wife Joan. There's been reference by others to an (earlier?) wife Katherine Clayton, but I can't seem to find what evidence supports that the Roger Williams who married Katherine Clayton was the same man as he who died in Virginia in 1677 at which time his wife was Joan.
