Looking for a baptism for https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bezuidenhout-565

Hi everyone,

Some really awesome researchers have helped me find a baptism reference for [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bezuidenhout-565] at St Mary's (Anglican), Port Elizabeth in Aug 1833, but none of us have yet been able to locate more than a reference. The reference has been attached to the profile as a pdf.

Unfortunately I'm not a member of ancestry, and I've tried looking through the Wits website..but I wasn't able to locate St Mary's, Port Elizabeth...and I'm pretty certain that we exhausted all searches on familysearch.

In the reference the name is FrancisPetrus Bezuydenhout, 10 May 1833, Port Elizabeth Cape of Good Hope, South Africa (in ancestry.com)

Is there anybody who can help me find this baptism?

Kindest regards

Pam

Aahh thanks Marion, I really hadn't considered that it was an acceptable source, so this is fantastic news. I'll have a chat with the project leaders of the Cape Dutch Project because there are discrepancies to discuss, often in South African research it's the witnesses to a baptism, or a note about residency that can be found in the images that can really help to build a profile and strengthen or weaken an argument as to weather two people are the same or not.

Thank you so much for your answer, I really appreciate it.

Have a lovely day

Ancestry has no more info. They do say that images will be added at a future date.If the registers aren't in an archive, it is possible that the Cathedral has retained its registers and they have been filmed by ancestry.

I found that there is a  pubished transcript of this register but the only libraries that appear to hold it are in Australia. https://www.worldcat.org/title/baptismal-marriage-and-burial-registers-of-the-collegiate-church-of-abbey-of-st-mary-the-virgin-port-elizabeth-south-africa-1825-1860/oclc/221554982&referer=brief_results

Oh wow, really? That's definitely something to look forward to in the future.

Thank you so much Helen!, and thank you for that link - I've probably only been on that site once or twice before so it's great to be trying it out again.

Have a lovely day

Pam
