Pieter Pietersz "Pieterse" Lassen formerly Lassingh aka Lassing, Lassingh, Lawson, Lasse

Born about 1635 in Husum, Kreis Nordfriesländ, Schleswig-Holstein, Germanymap

I've found evidence that Husum, Kreis Nordfriesländ, Schleswig was part of Denmark prior to 1616

"Schleswig and Holstein have at different times belonged in part or completely to either Denmark or Germany, or have been virtually independent of both nations. The exception is that Schleswig had never been part of Germany until the Second Schleswig War in 1864."

In 1635 Husum was within the Duchy of Slesvig-Holsten-Gottorp (to use the Danish spelling) and, as it was located within the former duchy of Slesvig/Schleswig, a fief of the King of Denmark (the duke held his lands in the former duchy of Holstein as a fief of the Holy Roman Emperor). Thus, I believe the correct name of the town at this time period should be Husum, [Hertugdømmet] Slesvig-Holsten-Gottorp, Danmark.

For the borders of Slesvig-Holsten-Gottorp around 1650, see this map (the duchy is in yellow). The English wikipedia article has deficiencies; far better are the equivalent German and Danish ones (you can use Google Translate to render them into English).

Thank you.

Now I have to figure out how to add citation/information to the records.
