I would like to connect my 4x great-grandfather Ephraim Gilmore to his father, who seems to be this orphaned profile: Robert Gilmore 1740-1812. That's all fine, but check out Robert's Find a Grave profile (and other sources seem to bear this out) that says his wife's name was Catherine, LNAB unknown. His WT profile attaches to Catherine Frandsen . Go up one more generation and it's another Robert Gilmore 1724-1781 (who seems to have the correct demographic condition and matches this Find A Grave profile) married to a Catherine Unknown. Oh yes, and he and Catherine Unknown are the parents of another Robert Gilmore 1776-1825 profile besides the first one I mentioned, which leads in strange directions. But the Find a Grave profile says he was married first to Anne Unknown, who died in childbirth, and then to Elizabeth Hunnewell, who would have been the mother of the younger Robert. However, there is little confirmation for Elizabeth, and the dates of the older Robert are somewhat suspect for being twice married before the younger Robert was born, although most of the ancestry records have the same. (For what it's worth, DAR estimates the birth date of Robert Gilmore the younger to be 1748 instead of 1740). But 3 generations back, things start to look more consistent with the research I have. I have been working from Ancestry in addition to Family Search.
Should I just go ahead and link Ephraim to his father Robert Gilmore 3163 (1740-1814) and adopt that profile, hoping to get help from managers of the other profiles to sort out the discrepancies in the mothers' lines and merge or disconnect where necessary? Robert the father of Ephraim does seem to be one of the Rev. War soldiers in my line, and I'd like to have his profile accurate and as well sourced as possible.
But I'm really confused how best to approach it. Advice please!
