I read a story yesterday about Sgt Isaac Woodard b 1919 in Fairfield county SC and because I'm Canadian, I'd never heard it before -- my heart was touched and I was angered to my core + knew I needed to create a profile for him = Woodard-2927
Isaac Woodard was a decorated African-American World War II veteran. On February 12, 1946, hours after being honorably discharged from the United States Army, he was attacked while still in uniform by South Carolina police as he was taking a bus home.
The attack and his injuries which caused him to be permanently blind, sparked national outrage and galvanized the civil rights movement in the United States.
His father was Isaac Woodard Sr who twice gave his DOB as Sept 21, 1881 in SC but I cannot find him in 1900 Census and cannot find his parents or his date of marriage to Eliza Arnold c1905ish in Fairfield co., SC -- I've gotten Census details for other years and his death in NY but I don't have an Ancestry subscription to search further.
Any help or corrections or additions would help in both these profiles.
