Can't sleep? Me neither! So I'm doing some genealogy.

Are you awake? Can't sleep like me or is it day time for you now?

What's the best genealogy thing to do to get tired enough to sleep??

Research in Irish Civil records, because the extremely short "session" will have you continually logging in.  If that's not boring enough, try looking for babies born and registered with no name, so you have to figure out which of 11 kids is which.

Late afternoon, been watching Murder She wrote re-runs cos I am exhausted from a day out. Usually i flit around Wikitree  doing this and that until eyelids droop.

My other fave is Midsomer Murders.

I love Midsomer Murders! And I could "watch" the same episode ten times while doing genealogy and still not remember anything about the plot (it's usually intricate enough), or even who did it.

Another idea: look for a family in a census for a large town (in France, those are rarely indexed), browsing through tens or hundreds of pages.

Haha, Isabelle, it's like me. There are Poirot and Miss Marple episodes in the evenings. I usually only remember that I have seen some of the characters. I never remember "whodunnit".  (until about 5-10 minutes before the end).

Morning here in Sweden, abt 8.45. First cup of coffee poured and starting my online presence with G2G today.

Unfortunately no tips, genealogy usually gets my mind reved up, wheels start turning... and turning... and turning... My best tips is relaxation exercises, there are even apps to help you relax/sleep.

Sometimes when I have been sitting too late with genealogy, following families forward in time, and probably I'm in the middle of the 1800s in some small place in Sweden... I really get tired and annoyed when yet another family has 12 children, and I "have" to enter them all in to wikitree. (And then check what happened to all of them and notice that at least half of them had another ten children...) And I don't like to finish in the midst of things.

Lol! I have families like that too! Once I enter them I have to find spouses and then their children. And so it goes on.

If looking for a repetitive activity to lull oneself to sleep, category or sticker work can be good. Like:

- moving out the profiles in Category:French Immigrants to New France to their proper category (requires some knowledge of administrative divisions in pre-Revolutionary France)

- or fix the profiles in any of the Migration maintenance categories: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Migration_Maintenance

- Replace the {{1776}} sticker with its successor, {{1776 Sticker}} (it's usually necessary to tweak the parameters a bit, but the new sticker is easier than the obsolete one)

- Add more specific categories to the free-space profiles in the Source category.

None of these suggestions are very entertaining, and some are not as easy as they sound, but they are great to boost a contributions count

EDIT: I forgot my current "favorite": Adding the CategoryInfoBox to cemetery categories with no information. That one does not add any contribution points, however.

Removing horizontal lines (----) from USA location categories and incorporating the information into a CategoryInfoBox (aka CIB) would be a good one, too. Hours and hours of  "fun" ahead :-)

I find wikitree is the best thing for me when I have trouble sleeping. Lately I have been going to my watch list and sorting it by edit date, and adding to my early profiles which definitely need some attention!

Adding sources, fixing typos, finding location field information or any such little edit makes for a better, much improved profile. And therefore improves wikitree.

Adding links on trove to wikitree profiles always helps me get sleepy...Australian in focus but an example none the less :-)

Trying to count the number of Richards great uncles and 2 x great uncles etc I have, it's a bit like counting sheep, starting in the early 1800s, with the sons of Silas Richards my 3 x grt grandfather, they all had large families and most of them survived. I never get the same number twice

If I can't sleep it is a good idea to do some family searching in various parish records or to work a little bit on WikiTree.

There are three things to do for me in the moment:

- adding my tenth generation on WikiTree and sourcing them,

- Looking threw G2G-Forum and looking if I cant help somebody. I like to transcribe and translate old German parish records.

- Translating Help Pages into German language.

As a result: if I cannot sleep, I am not bored.

I'm up late doing WikiTree stuff here lately. I'm a WikiTree-a-holic. I answer g2g posts and edit ancestors profiles.

Doing WikiTree generally feeds my insomnia. Brain keeps chasing after unfound sources and battering against brick walls while I'm lying awake.
