Totally confused - GEDCOMPare

Hi all,

I’m feeling sad.

I made a gedcom from RootsMagic. (I can’t do much with this software either as very tricky) I chose to do my direct ancestors and their children. 150 people. I had to read up on how to include just those people in the Gedcom. SUCCESS I did it.

Uploaded it. SUCCESS again.

I’ve spend hours comparing all the possible suggested matches against my gedcom. SUCCESS completed. Some were matched. Some were not.

Add button appeared. Worked through all the adds.

Now only matched people. I pressed compare and added my biographical notes. Extra details. Changed a few things as I had more complete date or place.

The square boxes were then ticked and each person is now faint. So marked as complete.

It says 152 / 150 marked as complete.

But it isn’t complete.

When I open my compact tree I can see that my mum is attached and my father isn’t. Both deceased. When I have wikitree show all my ancestors - there is about six people in total.

I have read the instructions. Plus found more instructions by reading other people’s questions.

I am going to have to declare this above my computer stills..

But I’m posting this in case I have missed something obvious.

I have done a lot of work on my tree. Original research (not simply guessing or saving from an Ancestry tree) and have spent a small fortune on certificates, books, photocopying, and travel to libraries near and far. I would love to share.

Most grateful for some help to complete this. Happy to have someone finish getting my ancestors linked up. Otherwise I think I have just added 150 people with no connections.

I studied library science before computers so I can do the research but can’t share it.

Do you have the manual “Getting the Most Out of RootsMagic”? It gives you a lot of information, I think it is essential.

I think the canned reports are generally good, but once you start using the RootsMagic Publisher, you can start creating in really nice reports.
Hi Sharon, I noticed the disconnection on your tree and I think I've managed to reconnect most on your maternal grandmother's side. I'm happy to help with the others. I might just need a bit more info from you, so contact me if you would like assistance with this!

You need to either edit your own profile to add your father or edit his profile to add yourself as his child. To do the latter, go to his profile, click on edit, go down the right side of the page until you get to the children section, click on "add/remove child." On the next page, in section A, put your WikiTree ID in the box and click "Go." You will be connected to him and vice versa.

Yes, this is a known annoying thing of the process. If you do not import the profiles 'along the family lines', the software will not automatically link the profiles.

As Nelda says, it is easy to fix. All your work is there. You can see what you have done in your contributions list as well. And the profiles will show up (after 24 hours) in your watched list (menu option Find>Watched Profiles).
