If you will do a search in FamilySearch.org, you'll find all kinds of information on the Andersdotter family:

https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3AAndersdotter~

You can also put in their names individually and you'll probably be surprised with all the information that comes up.

Thank you Debby! I have tried what you suggested but without luck, the surname Andersdotter is quite common, the meaning is like: 'A doughter of Anders'.

Unfortunately Anders is one of the most common male names in Sweden. I will try find out where in the US they went so my question can be more specific.
This one is very challenging since we don't have access to an 1890 census and by 1900 the daughters were probably all married. I also checked Heritage Quest census records, but didn't find them. Perhaps someone with an Ancestry account might be able to locate them.

A location would be very helpful. I didn't realize how common a surname Andersdotter was. FamilySearch.org even has some of their first and middle names, but you're right, the dates don't match so it's not them.

There were a number of of Anderssons on Heritage Quest, but no Johans. There were also a number of Johan Andersons, but none with the right birth date.

I also tried http://genforum.genealogy.com/andersdotter/
No luck.

No luck on a search of the first page.

No luck on a search of the first page.

There were a number of Johan August Anderssons, but not the right date. I didn't try the daughters on the previous two links, so there's still a possibility you might find something about them.

Sorry. I tried.

Peter,
I hope you have your answers since this inquiry was dated 2012.
I believe on of the persons that you are looking for.  Maria Adelina was my grandmothers mother.  She married Arthur H Anderson in Crystal Falls, Michigan.  Does this sound like your family?

My five cents of a comment: a search in the indexed census 1880 (folkräkningar 1880) for "maria adelina" born between 1855 and 1864 gets 28 hits. Just to say it was not a very common name combination.

Also in my experience with emigrants it is very unlikely that the sisters would have been Andersdotter in the USA. They would in all likelihood have swapped to Andersson. Or adopted a different family name.
