Advice before editing this pre-1700 Sayre profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Thomas Sayre. This is what I can add:  Southampton, Long Island was part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Not part of New York in 1640.

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Thank you, Suzanne. I'm always confused about Long Island because of all the jurisdiction changes, so I generally just use Long Island and leave it at that. But I did notice that his will written in 1669 says "I Thomas Sayre of South Hampton, Long Island in the Com. Nov: Yorke", so I think it must be New York in 1669 and when he died.

What county it was. I haven't a clue.
